Making Green Tea ☕☕

Making Green Tea ☕☕

Living green is a journey, and I continue to evolve like most off you. I started Green City Living in 2012 out of my desire to share products I’d made that really worked for me as I moved toward greenness. I would never claim to have all the answers.
This blog is about sharing the journey I am taking along with my successes and failures.  I also want to hear about yours. By sharing, we can help each other explore new ways to save our planet.
I made a health decision last year to only drink one diet soda a day.  Unfortunately I'm not much of a water drinker--so I switched to drinking iced tea, and I'm ashamed to admit that I purchased it in quart size containers from the grocery store. Here I am, creator of Green City Living, buying a product in a plastic container!
I was drinking about one of those a day, and as our recycling container filled up, I knew I needed to do something different. Plastic isn't easy to recycle, and there are reports of recycling centers not even trying. We might as well assume that plastic isn't being recycled.
My solution was to buy boxes of organic black tea packets and three of these great pitchers: https://www.amazon.com/.../ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin... I brew a pot each day (in the summer time I used the sun to do it) and when I'm working in my office as a nurse, or sewing in the shop, I can just carry it along to refill my glass.
I heat water with 5 tea bags in a small sauce pan to boiling and then turn off the heat and let it steep some.  One thing to keep in mind--in order to keep your jar from cracking, it's important to fill the pitcher at least 1/3 full with some cool (not cold) water--I fill it from the fridge--before pouring the tea in it from the pot, OR cool the tea before pouring it into the glass container and add additional water to fill.
