Green Holiday Card Ideas

34365824 - four christmas photos hanging on rope with bamboo clothespins against old wooden background

is on social media, so it is no longer just once a year we hear from people. We share our lives and our newest photos. The second reason I believe is the time and expense. We are busy busy busy these next couple of months and most of these busy things are hard on our wallet. Sometimes it seems like a chore to search and buy Christmas cards, go to the post office to buy stamps and address envelopes by hand. That isn't even including the stress of putting together a family photo! One more reason I think holiday cards are on the decline is because we are thinking more green these days. Most cards, envelopes, and photos are thrown away after the season. What a waste just to have something for a few weeks!

Here a few ways to make sending out Holiday cards a little more eco-friendly:

Include just one piece. Many cards include the card themselves, a letter and a photo. That is a lot in the envelope! Reduce by choosing just one of those. One piece of paper can include printed family photos, holiday images, and a nice letter. Or including one photo with a handwritten message on the back is sweet.

Handmade by Kids. Who doesn't love a hand drawn picture from the little ones? Use paper you already have at home or color on the back of gift wrap.

Postcard. A small and appreciative gesture letting them know you are thinking of them without all the fuss.

Traditional card using recycled or plantable materials. For example, the online store Paper Culture uses either recycled paper or bamboo for all of their products AND plants a tree with every order. With Botanical Paperworks cards are embedded with seeds that will sprout and grown when planted!

eCards. Send a card over email! No paper or postage required which means no waste! They are cute and animated and with Hallmark eCards you can make it look handwritten.

Tip to reuse the cards sent to you: Cut out the design and make them into bookmarks or gift tags.
